The Galleries of Quiet Waters Park with host an exhibition of three friends, “Chesapeake Inspirations,” two of whom work with driftwood sculpture and one who paints mainly in watercolor. Larry Ringgold and Bernie Houston go out on searching excursions on local beaches collecting interesting pieces of driftwood. Larry uses multiple pieces to create beautiful figures from the natural and mythical world. His sculptures reflect life and movement while maintaining a focus on the organic beauty of the wood. All the wood is cleaned and treated with a paraffin based preservative for display inside or out. Bernie uses one solid piece of driftwood; the characteristics of each sculpture is totally based upon the natural design structure of the wood itself. Occasionally, he will add some props to the work to give it extra flavor.
After working in marketing and sales to make a living, James Kinnett returned to his love of making art. As a child he was fascinated by nature; a fascination that has never been forgotten. He works from sketches and his own photographs combining elements to create a realistic depiction of nature. He works primarily in watercolors, using dry brush to get an opaque look. In 2007, he won the Maryland Duck Stamp Competition.
