Proposed Rowing/Sculling Facility within the Park

Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works has released plans to develop a portion of Quiet Waters Park into a Paddling & Rowing Facility.  A virtual public meeting has been scheduled to present and discuss the proposal.

The design shows two boardwalks off the main paved path behind the Holly Pavilion (nearest to the concert stage), crossing the upland and wetland areas leading to an approximately 250’ long dock extending into the cove.

The Friends of Quiet Waters Park previously expressed concerns of a proposed boat ramp located in this same area for the following reasons:

Numerous environmental impacts to: wetlands; submerged vegetation in the cove off Harness Creek; and upland area and bird habitat due to the removal of more than 29 trees

Inconsistency with the Master Plan which called for minimum shoreline disturbance within the Critical Area Boundary and a focus on passive recreation at the park

Multiple user conflicts within the park as it would cross both the existing paved and unpaved trails and to the Harness Creek users

Traffic and parking concerns conflicting with existing events and use of the Holly Pavilion
