• Project FeederWatch starts November 1st and extends until April. FeederWatch is a survey of birds that visit backyards, nature centers, community areas, and other locales in North America. You don’t even need a feeder! All you need is an area from which you like to watch birds. The schedule is completely flexible – you can count every week or once all winter, for as much or as little time as you like. For more information visit: www.birds.cornell.edu/pfw
• Feeders tend to get busier as November progresses. Keep your feeders full and fresh to attract migrants. The weather will quickly become cooler, especially overnight, so they will need reliable nutrition.
• Having fresh water available is important, especially if there’s an early freeze. Now is a great time to put out a heated bird bath so it is ready to be a winter water source for your birds.
