Look What Just Flew In!

Have you noticed the sun glinting off giant wings?  That would be the Park’s 19th sculpture!  Dragonfly has circled the Park and found a place to call home across the hill from the Playground, where it can be seen by kids of all ages.

Dragonfly is the work of the highly talented Anne Arundel County sculptor, James O’Neil, atdmetal.com.  James typically does private commissions but graciously designed and donated this sculpture to the Park under the auspices of the Friends.   Seen here is James along with the Park’s fabulous maintenance crew helping Dragonfly land.

And here is Dragonfly happily in place.  In the fall, the Park’s horticulturalist will plant a native plants garden under Dragonfly to help it feel even more at home.

Stop and watch Dragonfly for a while and it might share a secret.

Quiet Waters Park and the Friends of Quiet Waters Park Sculpture Committee invite one and all to an afternoon in the Park to celebrate the spectacular new sculpture, Dragonfly!

The event will take place across the big grassy hill near the main Playground.  Plan to bring a picnic and make it a joyful afternoon at the Park with art, nature and community!

Dragonfly will be officially welcomed with a ceremony at 1:15 PM to meet Anne Arundel County’s James O’Neil, the marvelous sculptor.  Kids can join in helping Dragonfly  feel at home. Then enjoy the tented activities like a fun storyteller, temporary dragonfly tattoos, fascinating information about these invertebrates, self-guided dragonfly and invertebrate walks, lemonade and cupcakes, and a dragonfly souvenir!
