Quiet Waters Park Weather Station
Citizen Science offers people the opportunity to participate in the collection of important environmental data in their chosen community and the Friends supports these efforts in the park. A new example is the park’s documentation of daily precipitation.
Matt Pruett, the Park’s Horticulturalist, tracks the ever-fluctuating weather here as part of his work to keep the gardens healthy and looking beautiful. With the help of the Rangers, the team takes daily morning readings of the rain gauge and reports them to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network (aka CoCoRaHS). This is a nationwide network involving 26,000 active observers. You can find the Quiet Waters Park weather station at https://www.cocorahs.org and we are station #MD-AA-98, known as Annapolis 2.4S. To navigate on the webpage, first click “View Data” in the blue bar at the top of the page. Next click “Station Data Explorer” at the top of that next page. From there choose “USA,” “Maryland,” and “Anne Arundel County” and enter our station #MD-AA-98. Quiet Waters Park’s station appears on the second page of the list. Kudos to the hardworking staff at the park for joining this data collection effort!
