Welcoming

In September 2025, we joined to celebrate the new Dragonfly sculpture and its talented creator, local sculptor James O’Neil. The event featured exchanges between the artist and the audience as to his technique and inspiration, a story teller, educational materials on insects, dragonfly tattoos, dragonfly souvenirs, and refreshments donated by Main & Market and Giant. It was an exceptional team effort among the Sculpture Committee members, the Park staff, other members of the Board and a gifted volunteer. It was a joy to have James’ family there to witness the accolades. County Council Member Lisa Rodvien came and was treated to a tour of the activities. Erica Matthews, Deputy Director of AA County Recreation and Parks, joined us to appreciate the beauty now enhancing the Quiet Waters Park. After our outreach, Rick Hutzell of the Banner wrote a wonderful article featuring the sculpture, the artist and the Park’s sculpture program.
